“I am an abstract artist working in an intuitive, process-driven way to unearth the essence and echoes of landscape, memory and myth through my paintings.”

In my paintings hard edged shapes intersect with organic and freely flowing forms. Luminous veils are pulled or poured across dark forbidding backgrounds, while solid planes of neutral colour rest quietly against the highly active, textured surfaces.

Working with the fluidity and possibilities of my materials in an intuitive way, my paintings capture an essence of time and place. I am interested in a ‘tension of opposites’, how an image can be both expansive and contained within the same painting.

Themes of landscape echo strongly through my painting practice. My references are a varied codex of images that I draw from the internet in order to metabolise and obscure; from satellite imagery, animal X-rays and images of the natural and built environments.

Whilst my work is highly personal and linked to my own experiences, I hope it expresses a wider universal connection. The paintings could be seen as a response to the changes occurring in the natural world and what these might mean for us in these challenging times.
